Book Talk: Barry Mazor Discusses the Everly Brothers

Author Barry Mazor will discuss his new book, Blood Harmony: The Everly Brothers Story, published by Hachette Book Group. The first substantial biography of the influential Everly Brothers, Blood Harmony follows Phil and Don Everly’s lives and career, which flourished in the period between Elvis Presley’s breakout and the Beatles’ global takeover. The title refers to the close-singing style the duo perfected, a tradition passed down from their rural Appalachian upbringing and adopted by countless followers in rock & roll, country, and Americana music. Through new and archival interviews with the people who were closest to the Everlys, Mazor explores the brothers’ successes, their complicated relationship, and their impact on the musical landscape of the twentieth century and beyond. Mazor has authored several books, including Ralph Peer and the Making of Popular Roots Music and Meeting Jimmie Rodgers: How America’s Original Roots Music Hero Changed the Pop Sounds of a Century. He also regularly writes on roots and country music for The Wall Street Journal. The Museum’s Jon Freeman will lead the conversation.
