The Freedom from War Coalition is busy organising a summer of building opposition to the presence on our Island of a US Base which serves as a testing facility for weapons – weapons which will be deployed inevitably against the people of our world and we owe it to them and our community to rid our home of this encroachment by a belligerent foreign power.
Much has been written about Nanoose Bay and the CFMETR over the years and though in the 80’s and 90’s there was an upsurge of concern and resistance in the presence of a foreign military force on our island, lately that unease seems to have dwindled.
We intend not to protest but to actively appeal to our communities up and down this Island to demand that our governments - local, provincial, federal - do the right thing and respond to the threats of annexation by the US regime with this powerful message. Have no illusions – we are obliged to take this challenge very seriously.
To this end, we will stage a democratic demonstration at the Nanoose Bay rest stop located on BC 19/TransCanada HWY starting at Noon, Saturday June 15.
This date coincides with the opening day of the G7 Summit in the beautiful landscape of the Kananaskis. President Trump will be welcomed there by the very people we might have looked to for security. We may well ask – what are their intentions and with whom do they actually stand?
The people of Canada are at risk from a dangerous and lethal force.
Join us there to build the work and defend the very ground we need upon which to build a better Canada
