THEME: BORN AGAIN (SONS OF GOD, THE SAINTS, SPIRITUAL BEINGS, HEIRS OF GOD)
Being born again is a literal word, meaning to be born a second time. And this is a spiritual birth as seen in the book of John 3:1-8
3: Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
According to above scripture, a prerequisite for inheritance of the kingdom of God is being born again, a person must undergo a second birth, a spiritual birth, for the second was physical.
BORN OF WATER AND SPIRIT
John 3:5
Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
To be born again, a spirit being, water and spirit must be involved.
BORN OF WATER
Water is used here symbolically, reality to be revealed. Biblically, this water in the verse, is the word of God. Throughout, scripture, water is used symbolically as the word of God, as evidenced by the following scriptures:
John 4:14
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
This water which when drunk no thirst again is the word of God, which satisfies like water.
Ephesians 5:26
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.
Here, water (word of God) is used to sanctify, read also
John 15:3, we are clean because of the word
1 John 5:6
This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ, not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the spirit that beareth witness, because the spirit is truth. Read John 19:39-40
Hebrews 10:22
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Pure water here represents the pure word of God, which has no impurity.
Revelation 21:6.........I will give unto him that is a thirst of the fountain of the water of life freely
Here, the fountain of the water of life represents the the unlimited word of God, able to quench the thirst.
Now, we can see clearly that, for rebirth to take place, water is involved. No wonder for physical birth, a person is formed out of water, so is the spiritual, here water being the word of God.
The word of God has power and authority to create as seen in Genesis. God used a word to create everything that was created.
John 1:3
All things were made by him (word as in John 1:1), and without him was not anything made that was made.
Hebrews 4:12
The word is powerful and living......
The word is a live and anything he creates must live.
In this context, John 3:5
Born of water means being born of the word of God which able and has power to create a being and give life.
BORN OF SPIRIT
Spirit is God
John 4:24
God is a Spirit.....
Therefore born of water and spirit can be interpreted as being made a live in the spirit.
Also means, born again experience is being created and live in the media of the spirit and hence take the character of the father, Jesus Christ. As it is said in:
Matthew 5:48
We must be perfect as your father in heaven is perfect
1 Peter 1:15-16
... holy as I holy.
Must have fruit of the spirit
Galatians 5:22-23
John 1:13
Which were born not of the blood, not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
We are born of God, born of water, the word of God.
New creation in Jesus Christ
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature....
We become righteousness of God, we possess the right and citizenship of the kingdom of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21
....... that we might be made the righteousness of God.
Isaiah 54:17b
... their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
Therefore, a born again person, is not ordinary person on earth, he is a spirit, living with his father in the heavenly place.
Ephesians 2:6
And hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 3:1
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Another aspect of a born again person is that he lives in Christ Jesus and Christ in him, he is not a lone while on earth. The spirit of God lives in him.
John 14:16-17, Spirit of God lives in us forever.
Jesus Christ said we abide in him and him in us.
John 15:4
Abide in me and I in you.....
In conclusion:
1. All born again are spirit beings having temporal physical bodies.
2. They live in Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ in them.
3. Judged by no one, as the judge of the living and the dead is in them, even they will judge the fallen angels
4. They are not limited as ordinary people are, operate in the spirit and in the physical.
5. They contain the genetic material of God, hence possessing attributes of God.
6. They sin not as it's not their nature to sin, but delight in the righteousness which is their genetic material.
7. They don't have the habitual nature of sinning, for it's not their nature to sin, once fallen to sin, they always have genuine sorrowful repentance which invites the thorough cleanse by the blood.
8. Born again are children of God having nature of God in them, while unborn again are children of the Devil and have the genetic material of their father and able habitually sin as their father who sinned from the beginning.
Be blessed as you study more of the word of God as it is the food of the spirit, we become stronger as we study the word, we live forever, death has no power over us, as the sting of death is sin.
