World’s Best Skimboarders Return to Outer Banks for 2025 OBX SkimJam
Top professionals from Brazil, Mexico, Delaware, California, Alabama, and Florida to compete for $15,000 prize purse at Jennette’s Pier
NAGS HEAD, N.C., July 18, 2025 — The 2025 OBX SkimJam skimboarding competition will return to Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, North Carolina from Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27. The event will bring together many of the world’s top ranked skimboarders to compete for a $15,000 professional prize purse. All pro and amateur divisions will count toward the Skim USA tour. The Men’s Professional Division will also serve as the third stop of the 2025 United Skim Tour (UST) — the world’s premier international tour for professional skimboarding.
Among this year’s featured competitors is four-time UST Champion and current UST points leader Lucas Fink of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Also attending are Dane Cameron and Timmy Gamboa, both from Laguna Beach, Calif., who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 2024 UST season standings. Gerardo Valencia of Barra de Navidad, Mexico, a three-time Skim USA Champion and the 2021 UST Champion, will also compete in the pro men’s division. Sydney Pizza of Delaware, a two-time Skim USA Champion, will be among the professional women entrants alongside Nicole Phillips of Florida, currently ranked 3rd for the 2025 Skim USA season.
The OBX SkimJam includes full amateur divisions as part of Skim USA. Amateur divisions range from minis (8 & under) to Legends (50+) for both men and women, along with a semi-professional division open to all non-pro riders.
The $15,000 professional prize purse is raised with the support of dozens of local businesses and skimboarding brands. The purse will be distributed equitably between the pro men’s and pro women’s divisions based on competitor turnout and may increase as registration grows.
“The support of so many local OBX businesses has enabled us to again offer one of the largest purses on tour,” said event co-host Wendy Caputo. “The Outer Banks is home to some of the best skimboarding waves on the entire East Coast. We’re excited to welcome the skimboarding community back to Jennette’s Pier for another great weekend of competition.”
The event begins daily at 8 a.m. and runs through approximately 6 p.m. each day. Pro heats will run during the best tides and wave conditions, with timing adjusted as needed to ensure optimal performance opportunities. OBX SkimJam will also feature additional activities for spectators and the local community. On Friday evening, the “Party at the Pier” will take place in the Jennette’s Pier parking lot, featuring food trucks, vendors, and family-friendly activities.
As part of this year’s event, OBX SkimJam 2025 will raise funds in support of Colin Tibbs, a 19-year-old skimboarder who sustained a traumatic spinal injury while riding in K*ll Devil Hills on June 24th. Colin is now in recovery but faces a long road ahead. Throughout the weekend, attendees will have opportunities to contribute to help his family offset medical and travel expenses. For the UST, the OBX SkimJam marks stop three of six on the 2025 calendar. The first two contests were international events in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and Ubatuba, Brazil. The remaining UST locations include Dewey Beach, Del.; Laguna Beach, Calif.; and Newport Beach, Calif..
