⚠️IMPORTANT: Please read the full event description!⚠️
⚠️Note that Friday 8/15 is not a national holiday, you would need to take the day off.⚠️
Max 8 people.
Join us in this two-day fastpacking adventure going through a fantastic ridge on the deep of the Northern Alps: Ura Ginza 🏔️
If the stars align, we will also be able to cheer on our TTR friends who will be doing The Top Ten challenge (climbing the 10 highest mountains of Japan in one go)
We will stay on Thursday night (8/14) at a guest house in Shinano Omachi, and go by taxi on early Friday (8/15) morning to Nanakura dam / Takase dam. On the first day we will make our way to Mitsumata sanso, where we will camp. We should hit two hyakumeizans (Suishodake and Washibadake) as we make our way along a stunning ridgeline. On the second day we will wake up (very) early so that sunrise catches us on the move, and head towards Yarigatake asking another incredible ridge. We will finish at Kamikochi on Saturday.
Previous experience fastpacking or camping on high mountains is not mandatory for joining. However, do note that the event is aimed for those advanced runners who can move relatively fast for long hours on technical terrain. If you want to join but are not sure if you would fit the group, don't hesitate to contact us. This run will be led by Carlos (fb.me/crabsiun).
Effort: 4/5 (more than 10 hours of movement each day at a steady pace with minimal breaks).
Technicality: 4/5 (Ladders and chains, some scrambling)
Exposure: 4/5 (Narrow ridges with steep falls on either side)
Mandatory gear list is below. If you don't own some of this, please post mentioning what you miss and we might be able to help you (either lending items or providing recommendations for buying or renting).
- Tent or shelter
- Sleeping bag or quilt
- Sleeping pad
- Rain gear
- Warm clothes!!
- Emergency sheet
- Headlamp (and spare battery)
- 1.5 liters of water
- Enough food, including dinner.
- Mountain insurance.
Note: even if mid August is insufferably hot and humid down in Tokyo, temperature can get down to around 0°C in the high ridges. Make sure that the combination of your clothes, sleeping bag and/or bivvy, and shelter, allows you to spend a night at this temperature without freezing. If you are unsure, don't hesitate to contact us for advice.
Additionally, if you are new to fastpacking, please check Derin's excellent post on this topic (the guy knows a thing or two about being efficient in high mountains). If the weight of your fully packed backpack, including all water and food, is more than ~9 kg, it is too heavy!
