Join us Thursday, August 27 at 6 PM at the CCAC for a screening of A Sacred Thread, a PBS North Carolina documentary that follows the Snowbird Cherokee of western North Carolina.
This film shares how the Snowbird Cherokee work to protect their language, customs, and traditions at a time when many Native communities are fighting to keep their heritage alive. It’s a story rooted in the Appalachians- part of the larger Cherokee homelands, including areas near Snowbird, Murphy, and the Qualla Boundary
We’re hosting this in partnership with Common Ground to bring our community together to learn, listen, and reflect.
Why this matters:
The documentary shows real people doing the work of preservation- not a distant story, but one connected to this land.
It’s a chance to honor the ongoing resilience and cultural strength of the Cherokee communities here.
It’s also a step toward understanding and supporting indigenous heritage in western North Carolina.
