Witness a spectacular ode to the guru-shishya parampara as celebrated composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan takes the stage with his closest proteges, including sons Siddharth and Shivam Mahadevan.
With over 30 years of musical experience and a stellar career spanning diverse genres, Shankar Mahadevan is a beloved beacon in the landscape of Indian music. Having first gained prominence as a part of the innovative Bollywood trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the soulful voice behind ‘Breathless’ is known for blending classical and contemporary styles. Shankar Mahadevan’s repertoire includes a Grammy for the ‘Best Global Music Album’, some pathbreaking albums, and decades of exhilarating live performances. But at the heart of his musical journey is an all-encompassing passion for mentorship, guiding India’s next generation of musicians. This extends to his sons, who, along with being the torchbearers of a rich legacy, are also creating their own mark in the industry as playback singers of growing repute.
Siddharth Mahadevan burst into Bollywood with the electrifying ‘Zinda’ from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and went on to be associated with a string of chartbusters like ‘Pehli Baar’ (Dil Dhadakne Do), ‘Sarfira’ (Katti Batti), ‘Naach De Ne Saare’ (Bar Bar Dekho), and many more. Shivam Mahadevan, on the other hand, is one of the most promising musical talents of the younger generation, with well-loved songs like ‘Chedkhaniyan’ and ‘Sajan Bin’ (Bandish Bandits) to his name. Accompanying the power trio are ardent shishyas Shrinidhi Ghatate and Prakruti Giri, who have each blazed their own trail.
The evening evokes the hummable nostalgia of film music as well as the creative spirit of fusion and features a special segment by the students of the ‘Inspire India Project’ — an initiative led by Shankar Mahadevan which brings music education to children from underprivileged schools. The stalwart’s other educational contributions include the Shankar Mahadevan Academy, a pioneering institution that imparts the tradition of Indian Classical music to students from over 92 countries. The ethos of this presentation draws generously from other social and humanitarian initiatives led by his school, where music is used to foster joy, creativity, and moments of healing for students on the spectrum, senior citizens, and terminally ill patients.
For Shankar Mahadevan, music moves beyond the realm of performance, serving as a powerful force for the transformation of human lives. It is this parampara of music’s healing power that the evening chooses to honour.
