Join the Friends of the Morgantown History Museum on June 20, 2025, for a special tour of the home of U.S. Senator Waitman T. Willey, known as the Father of West Virginia.
Located at 128 Wagner Road, Morgantown, this 19th-century mansion played a pivotal role in the formation of our state. Explore the first-floor living spaces, including Willey’s office, parlor, dining room, and grand hall. Learn how Senator Willey helped shape West Virginia’s statehood during the Civil War, and hear the powerful story of Elizabeth Willey’s defiance against Confederate raiders in 1863.
The self-guided tour includes an exhibit on the Willey family and concludes with refreshments in the enclosed brick courtyard. Docents will be available to share insights on the home’s history and architecture.
