"Focus On Landscapes" 2-Day Workshop with Instructor, Eddie Tallent! Please note that this workshop will be held at the W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir Visitor Assistance Center located at 499 Reservoir Rd, Wilkesboro, NC 28697
The W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir is a 1,475-acre artificial lake impounded by a dam located in Wilkes County, North Carolina. It is located on the Yadkin River system, and is operated and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This unique opportunity of collaboration between Wilkes Art Gallery and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers offers our art students inspiration, sensory engagement, and creative exploration. Although this is not a plein air specific workshop, students will indeed have the opportunity to paint and draw outside. The landscape, the temperature, environmental sounds, and the experience of the passing of time all add depth to the students artwork. This workshop, for artists of any skill level, will feature painting and drawing landscapes, with particular attention given to methods of simplifying views that can often be overwhelming. The class will begin with drawing and sketching exercises and then progress to execution of a finished artwork. Weather permitting, students may work outdoors, but this is not specifically a “plein air” class.
Participants must supply their own materials and reference photos (if used) and should bring sufficient supplies to complete at least one finished artwork and additional surfaces for exercises. Students may work in any color drawing or painting medium including, but not limited to, colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, egg tempera, or oils.
Advanced registration is highly encouraged.
June 25-26, 2025, 10-4 pm (with break for lunch)
NOTE: This class will be held at the Kerr Scott Visitor Center classroom.
Parking: If you are attending a class or workshop, there is parking at the front of the Visitor Center.
Entering/Exiting the Building: Please enter through the main entrance of the Visitor Center during operating hours. When you are done, you may exit through the main entrance.
