Joignez-vous à l’artiste Swapnaa Tamhane et aux professeur·e·s Ishita Tiwary (Cinéma, Université Concordia) et Prasad Bidaye (Littérature anglaise, Humber College) pour une conversation autour de l’installation textile de Tamhane, Never Was A Man, présentée dans le cube SIGHTINGS. Située dans le Pavillon Hall de l’Université Concordia, un lieu marqué par une histoire de mobilisations étudiantes qui se poursuit encore aujourd’hui, l’œuvre s’ancre dans l’héritage de Rohith Vemula, doctorant dalit dont la mort en 2016 a suscité une vague de protestations à travers l’Inde. Prenant cette installation comme point de départ, les intervenant·e·s tisseront des liens entre les enjeux d’accès à l’éducation, de bien-être étudiant, de protestation et de solidarité, dans les contextes sud-asiatique comme nord-américain.

Join artist Swapnaa Tamhane and professors Ishita Tiwary (Cinema, Concordia University) and Prasad Bidaye (English, Humber College) for a dynamic conversation centered on Tamhane’s textile installation Never Was A Man, presented in the SIGHTINGS cube. Located in the lobby of Concordia University’s Hall Building, a site of both historic and ongoing student protests, the work reflects on the legacy of Rohith Vemula, the Dalit PhD student whose 2016 death ignited nationwide demonstrations across India. With Tamhane’s piece as a focal point, the speakers will crisscross between themes of access to education, student wellness, protest, and solidarity in both South Asian and North American contexts.
