About the event

BELLA MADRE D'EROI
(English below)

The eighteenth-century Viennese court was an important center of musical culture, with a particularly voracious appetite for newly composed operas. While the vast majority of eighteenth-century vocal works were composed by men, there were an exceptional number of operas, as well as oratorios, written by women associated with the Viennese milieu.

The program includes excerpts from works by Camilla de Rossi (1670-1710), Maria Margherita Grimani (1680 - c.1720), Maria Teresa Agnesi Pinottini (1720 - 1755), and Maria Antonia Walpurgis (1724 -1780). The concert also includes a new work by Rona Nadler (b. 1983) based on the poetry of Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (1689-1762), an English writer, poet, and proto-feminist whose travel letters describe the court and culture of eighteenth-century Vienna from a female perspective.

With guest artists:
Andréanne Brisson-Paquin, soprano
Stéphanie Pothier, mezzo-soprano
Karin Cuéllar Rendón, baroque violina
Jacques-André Houle, baroque viola
