On Saturday, August 9, 2025, the electric vehicle-curious can peruse different makes and models, quiz owners, and ‘kick-the-tires’ of several electric cars and trucks.
Electric vehicles, or “EVs” have been growing in popularity as Americans embrace the new technology that provides zippy new cars without the costs of gas, oil, or frequent check-ups. The downtown Greers Market at 260 St. Louis St. will host the
“EV Showcase” from 10 AM- 2 PM.
Local EV owners have been gathering for years to display their cars and trucks at public meetups. The Showcases are organized by Bay Area Drive Electric Alabama which is part of the Alabama Clean Fuel Coalition of drivers, businesses, and public
agencies promoting clean energy.
This Showcase couldn’t be timelier. In 2008, Congress approved a $7,500 tax credit for buying or leasing new electric vehicles and a $4,000 used-EV credit. But tax and budget legislation approved by Congress this year will eliminate tax credits on purchases after September 30, 2025. The subsidies have boosted EV sales in recent years, and some dealers and analysts expect shoppers to rush to take advantage of the credit before it expires.
“This is certainly a great time to be considering an EV,” Rivian’s finance chief Claire McDonough said on Tuesday. “If there’s anyone who hasn’t bought their EV yet, they’re likely to be encouraged to buy in the third quarter.
