SHOW SYNOPSIS

RATED R and intended for 18+ audiences. Music, lyrics, and book written by Richard O’Brien.

This deliberately kitschy Rock n’ Roll Sci-Fi gothic musical is an experience one won’t soon forget! A bawdy and humorous tribute to various science fiction and horror B movies from the 1930s to the 1960s, this cult classic musical has been enchanting audiences for over 50 years.

“The Rocky Horror Show” tells the story of all American sweethearts, Brad and Janet, getting caught in a storm and finding their way to a secluded castle for help. Once inside, they are quickly introduced to a cavalcade of colorful individuals ranging from wait staff with ennui, risqué party guests, and an evil mad scientist, Dr. Frank-n-Furter, who is an out and proud Sweet Transvestite. They learn that Frank is hosting a party to unveil his new creation, Rocky, a sort of Frankenstein-style monster in the form of a fully grown, physically perfect, muscle man. Over the course of their evening, Brad and Janet go on a journey of hedonistic self-discovery and expression, and in the end, with many others, leave changed from all they’ve encountered and participated in.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

*** NO MINORS will be allowed to audition or to be a part of the production crew. ALL ACTORS AND CREW MUST BE AGE 18+ as of August 1st, 2025 to participate. ***

Please prepare 30-60 seconds of a rock-style song either from a musical or mainstream radio. Choosing a song with a style and key that showcases your skill and confidence is preferred over a song that is “traditionally” used in auditions. An accompanist will be available for those with sheet music, or you may use an instrumental track via Bluetooth speaker. A cappella singing is not advised, but will not be turned away.

No monologue required. Sides will be provided at auditions for cold reads.

There will also be a short movement combination. Please bring an appropriate change of clothes and shoes in order to move freely. **Those interested in auditioning for Frank-n-Furter are encouraged to bring appropriate heels to dance in.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

PHANTOMS a.k.a. THE TRIBE
These seemingly innocuous party goers come and go within the story, not as ornaments or set pieces, but helping to push the story along while also watching it play out. They are the first to appear, even prior to the show starting, and their visual appearance, playing with gender identity, gives the audience a taste of the ‘weirdness’ which is about to take place.

USHERETTE
She opens the show with intrigue, hinting to the audience what they're about to witness, and is filled with a dangerous lust. With ultra confidence she commands the stage, and is the Commander of “The Tribe”, a sergeant of sorts.

BRAD
a traditional God-fearing man from Small Town, USA. He has no discerning talents, was never the top of his class, is very average in everything, and is most definitely in the closet— even to himself.

JANET
a very simple girl who was conservatively-raised to be a certain way. Even though she knows she is more intelligent and intuitive than Brad, she has a hard time speaking up.

DR. FRANK-N-FURTER
is an alien posing as a human inspired by old Hollywood and the women who ruled the silver screen. Frank appears put together and reeking of glamour until you learn of their scheming. Frank is only looking out for one person, and is desperate to be as perfect as their warped mental image of themself. They came to earth to form a following that honors and adores Frank, and to finally no longer be an outcast.

RIFF RAFF
is an alien posing as a human butler, and he has grown weary of Earth. Through the evening we see him struggling through withdrawals, and when he can’t take it anymore of the evening’s events, he overthrows Frank and takes his revenge.

MAGENTA
is an alien posing as a human, and is a loosey-goosey follower of Frank’s, but only following what suits her best. Her mind has been warped and her sensibilities no longer exist, as it shows in her ‘care not’ attitude and appearance.

COLUMBIA
was raised much like Janet, but was always defiant which led to her running away from her family. She rejects society norms and the image of womanhood she was being forced into.

EDDIE
Is the ex-lover of Frank and Columbia, and the nephew of Dr. Scott. He was a punk rock musician before his untimely demise, and is unintentionally brought back to life before meeting his demise— again.

ROCKY
is a “Frankenstein’s Monster”-esque creation, and their body is an amalgamation of past lovers and creations of Frank— indicating Rocky being only one of many failed love attempts. He is considered the “perfect” specimen.

DR. EVERETT SCOTT
Is the uncle of Eddie and an ex-high school science teacher who now works for the government attached to the bureau of UFO investigations.

NARRATOR
is presented as a Criminologist and comes in and out of the story to commentate on the night’s events. However, at the end of the evening they are revealed to be a member of “The Tribe” and a true Transylvania believer.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

JJP’s production of “The Rocky Horror Show” will not be a ‘shadow cast’ (meaning we will NOT be performing in front of a screen of the movie playing), but instead it will be a fully staged musical. All experience levels are encouraged to come out and audition, and everyone is invited to look beyond traditional casting tropes and audition for the characters they would most enjoy portraying versus any adherence to “type”.

It should be emphasized that “The Rocky Horror Show” deals with explicit adult content and does not shy away from topics like sexual liberation, self identity, and a general bohemian lifestyle. There will be NO nudity, but in line with traditional staging, costuming and the general posture of the production will be more risqué and suggestive in nature. Those interested in participating in “The Rocky Horror Show” are highly encouraged to watch the movie adaptation if they have not already done so.
