This is an exciting new fieldtrip to a special, working fossil fish quarry in the Eocene Epoch, Green River Formation. Great finds are coming out of this site!
Journey out to a privately owned ranch early this summer to experience the thrill of discovering Eocene fossil treasures that have been millions of years in the making. This special quarry, which is located near Kemmerer atop one of Wyoming's famous buttes, provides breathtaking views of the western plains and endless skies. You will be able to collect at this site for eight hours from both the split and 18-inch layers which contain multiple species of not only fossil fish, but also stingrays, birds, insects and plants as well. All equipment, collecting instruction and guidance will be provided to you during your time spent in the quarry. Your finds will also be trimmed for you while in the field.
As an additional bonus, participants on this trip will receive complimentary preparation instructions from our ZRS Paleontologist along with the use of our ZRS professional grade fossil preparation tools through our in-house ZRS Studio-Lab.
ZRS has arranged for all participants to be able to keep their finds -- including birds, stingrays, and diplomystus fish exceeding 15-inches in length! There are only three exceptions to this rule. The average digger will leave with well over their trip investment worth of specimens - with the current daily record being $10,000 worth in discovered materials!
The drive to Kemmerer, Wyoming takes around 16 hours from our ZRS Retail store to complete. We will provide locality information and directions to some additional collecting sites along the way for any Kemmerer Fieldtrip participants who might be interested in taking a bit of extra time for side adventures.
