For this edition of the synth meet join us is welcoming Tim Russell!
Tim lives where the aural and the visual meet, with a strong commitment to "nowness" in performance. He is the Music Director for the University of Wisconsin’s Dance Department. In 2019, Tim was selected as a Cowles Visiting Artist at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, being the first musician in the field of Dance to receive this honor. Tim was one of the artists featured in the Modular World Wisconsin spotlight 2024.
He has a vast catalog of works specifically for choreography, mostly performed live, in collaboration with movement. Tim’s 2022 album, “Selected Works For Movement v.1”, was included in Tone Madison’s top 20 records of 2022. He co-created/curated, along with choreographer Maria Gillespie, Hyperlocal MKE, a Music and Dance improvisation series in Milwaukee.
His current curatorial project, Common Sage Arts, promotes multidisciplinary artists through curated performances. Along with Tim’s long time collaboration with the Gerald Casel Dance Company, his audio shares the stage with a vast array of choreographic artists bringing Tim and his music across the world from Dock 11 in Berlin to YBCA in San Francisco. He holds a MFA in Music Improvisation from Mills College in Oakland, California, where he studied improvisation, electronic music, and composition with John Bischoff, Fred Frith, Roscoe Mitchell, and Zeena Parkins.
Tim will be demonstrating a hybrid setup of electro acoustics and modular synthesizers, you know things are going to get wild when someone breaks out the contact mics!
As usual we always want to hear from you fine folks. Bring your projects to show off, tell us about shows your playing, built a new synth or module? We wanna see it!

Table space may become limited.
If you have a large setup to accommodate give us a heads up in advance, otherwise first come first serve.
Please bring your own headphones to demo synths with as opposed to monitors, We'll have a PA/Mixer setup if anyone wants to demonstrate anything to the whole group.
We'll also have a projector/hdmi mixer running if anyone has visual equipment to demo.
