We'd like to get together to discuss the subject of the "Masculinity Crisis." The masculinity crisis refers to a perceived loss of a clear definition of what it means to be a man, leading to feelings of uncertainty, alienation, and disorientation among some men as traditional roles and expectations clash with contemporary societal changes.
This can be a heated topic, but our goal here is to have constructive conversation around how to best support men who may be feeling lost or ignored, without de-emphasizing the needs of women, LGBTQIA+, and minority members of our community.
We will have techniques in mind for slowing down the conversation when needed and ensuring that everyone's voice is heard. Come to this meeting with the intent to offer perspective, but also to hear and consider the perspectives of others.
Some of the questions we want to address:
- What is masculinity and how do we decide when masculinity is healthy or toxic?
- What blind spots do each of us have?
- How can we understand men's perspectives without taking away from lifting up others?
- How can men cultivate spaces (physical and metaphorical) to be with other men without shutting out women and other genders?
We'll be getting together in the back room of Adventure Ink and it will be after hours to insure privacy. If RSVPs indicate that there will be too many of us for the space, we'll look at a member hosting at their home instead.
