Richmond has one of the most vibrant and dynamic comic book communities I've ever seen and we are planning to celebrate that on Saturday September 27 for Local Comic Shop Day!
This year for LCSD we are teaming up with the other amazing comic shops in town, Alpha, Stories and Velocity to really showcase how amazing our community is. I'm going to throw a LOT of information in here so thank you in advance for reading!
When coming up with the idea for this city wide community based event I enlisted the aid of local legend Nick Justus to help me figure out an idea to turn into an exclusive art print for Local Comic Shop Day. Of course Nick knocked it out of the park so we will have a limited number of those prints available at all four Richmond comic book shops! We will be unveiling the print at the VA Comicon on September 6. I will be there promoting LCSD and I could have a surprise guest at my table.
My next thought was "how do I encourage folks to visit all four stores in one day" and the answer came to me at a small art show at a brewery while looking at zines. I should make a zine! I'm currently hard at work making a "These are the shops in your neighborhood" introduction zine that will help you find the shops and introduce you to the people in them. Each store has an exclusive store stamp (I stole this idea from Stories!) and getting all four stamps on the back cover of your zine enters you into a drawing for fabulous prizes!
Each store will be supplying a package of cool stuff to give away and we will also be giving away the original art by Nick Justus we are using for the print!
As for Richmond Comix we will have artists and vendors set up in the parking lot much like we did for Free Comic Book Day. We will also be sponsored by Canada Dry again and they will be on hand to give out free drinks. They made FCBD an even cooler event than normal and I am so happy they are coming back to do it again!
We will have Nick Justus here with us to sign his prints alongside some really cool comics like Bootleg Batman!
We will also have a special appearance by FAMOUS CARTOONISTS ART BALTAZAR AND JAMIE COSLEY around 3:00pm!
I'm sure I will have more information as we get closer!
