Free Walkabout - Palatines, Weiser & Their Mohawk Neighbors

Not a tour, but a walking presentation connecting the worlds of the Palatines and Mohawks of the Schoharie Valley, who formed a unique relationship through famed 18th century interpreter Conrad Weiser, Jr. This is a preview of tour guide Jeff O’Connor’s “Skohere and the Birth of New York’s Western Frontier 1609-1731” series, especially for final Volume III 1703-1731. Included are exclusive narratives about the return of Mohawks to the valley after a century of vacancy, Nicholas Bayard’s Skohere tract and the Extravagant Grants, Mohawk Chief Hendrick, the Palatine arrival, Conrad Weiser’s Mohawk education, Johannes Conrad Weiser, conflict with Adam Vrooman, the Five (later Seven) Partners, Weiser’s Dorf, interference with New York’s Mohawk/Five Nations diplomacy, the Palatine delegation to London, and the exodus beginning in 1723.
