Learn all about the fascinating fauna of Ambler Flatwoods Nature Preserve through our series of hikes to accompany our new “The Art of Ambler Flatwoods” coloring book!
The hike will take you through the wetland habitat, where you’ll learn to identify key critters and discover how they thrive in this extraordinary environment. Along the way, you’ll hear stories about the vital role these animals play in maintaining the health of this diverse ecosystem.
To celebrate your adventure, all participants will receive a special Ambler Flatwoods coloring book, featuring illustrations of the preserve’s iconic plants and wildlife—a perfect keepsake for all ages to continue exploring nature at home.

We will meet at the gravel parking lot along Meer Road, located at 8364 Meer Road, Michigan City, 46360.
Nature Highlights: Key animals, such as frogs, salamanders, insects, and birds.
What to Bring: Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended. We encourage you to bring your own water bottle as there is no potable water at this location.
Tick & Mosquito Safety: Please note that ticks and mosquitoes are prevalent this time of year. Wearing light-colored long-sleeved shirts, pants, and socks can prevent both. Bringing your preferred insect repellent is encouraged, although some will be provided onsite.
Length: About 1.1 miles on varied terrain.
Weather Policy: Rain or shine. Event will be cancelled in inclement weather. No rain date.
Amenities: Please note there is no restroom at this location.
