🏔️ Upper Rakaia Family Winter Adventure

🕙 Departure: 10:00am Sharp
📍 Launch Site: Rakaia Gorge Bridge
Join us for a crisp winter day on the stunning Upper Rakaia River! We’ll launch from the Rakaia Gorge Bridge and cruise upstream to around the Wilberforce confluence. If river conditions are right, we’ll explore a little further and stop for a riverside lunch.
🔥 If the wind stays down, we’ll light a bonfire so the kids (and big kids!) can cook a sausage and toast some marshmallows. A great family outing and perfect chance to enjoy some winter boating fun!
On the downstream run, we will plan to also stop off in the Lake Coleridge tail race for a look.

❄️ Winter Weather = Wrap Up Warm
Even on a sunny winter’s day, it’ll be chilly. Please come prepared with:
• 🧤 Thermals, jackets, beanies & gloves
• 🎒 A dry bag with a full change of clothing (just in case)
• 🚤 Fuel for 4 hours on the river
• 📻 VHF Radio – Channel 6
• 🧯 First aid kit & fire extinguisher
• 🔧 Boat check before launching (fluids, steering, etc.)

🧭 River Grade: 1 (Easy boating – ideal for beginners and family groups. Deep water, gentle braids, with some shingle or minor rapids.)
