🚤 JBNZ Canterbury – High Country Boating Adventure – Sunday 24 August
Kia ora team,
Get ready for a spectacular day out in the Canterbury High Country! 🌄❄️ This is one of the most scenic runs you’ll ever do, with snowcapped mountains, crystal-clear streams (hopefully), and plenty of boating action.
Event details:
📅 Date: Sunday 24 August 2025
📍 Launch location: Lake Coleridge Tail Race – through Lake Coleridge village and out onto the riverbed (see attached map)
🕗 Launch: From 8:00am
🗣 Briefing: 8:45am
🏁 Departure: 9:00am sharp – please allow plenty of time to get there and launch, as we’ve got a big day of boating ahead
⏱ Return: Back to trailers by 4:00pm
📡 VHF Channel: 6
The plan:
We’ll launch from the Tail Race and head upstream into Lake Stream, exploring the braid and the Tussock Channels with the snowcapped mountains of the Canterbury High Country as our backdrop 🏔️. We’ll stop at the top for lunch or brunch, then make our way downstream into the Wilberforce River for a look around (flow dependent). After that, it’s an easy run back to the trailers.
The upper Rakaia offers fantastic braiding and top boating conditions. This run is not for novices – at least 10 hours’ boating experience is recommended.
Suitable for: 🚤 Family boats, classic boats, inflatable boats, mini boats – and everything in between. You’ll never be asked to take on water that’s not right for your boat.
Important reminders:
🧥 It’s winter boating – dress warm and bring a spare change of clothes in a dry bag
⛽ Bring enough fuel for around four hours of boating
⏰ Be on time – departure is 9am sharp
📡 We’ll be on VHF Channel 6 for the day
Organiser:
📞 Joe Daly – 022 311 7876
Pack your warm gear, bring your sense of adventure, and come join us for an epic day on the water. See you there! 🙌
Cheers,
JBNZ Canterbury Branch
