The history of the terrible Yellow Fever epidemics of 1873, 1878, and 1879 can be found at Elmwood Cemetery. The Howard Association, the Citizens' Relief Committee, the Sisters of St. Mary's, and individuals who fought valiantly against the spread of the scourge are all at rest in Elmwood Cemetery. Their triumphs and tragedies echo through the hallowed cemetery grounds to this day.
This popular tour is offered only once a year. Join Assistant Director Bob Barnett for a walking tour through the cemetery grounds and hear the stories of the yellow fever epidemics in Memphis. This tour lasts 90 minutes and starts at 10:00 AM. Registration is required. The cost is $20 per person.
