The fight for the #RightToKnow isnβt over yetβ¦
August 1st - The Game Meats Trial: Part 2
In December we achieved a historic victory for industry transparency, winning the landmark Right to Know Trial and preventing the Game Meats Company slaughterhouse from blocking the publication of footage of treatment of animals at their facility.
Now we find ourselves fighting once again to make sure this footage will be seen by the public.
The Game Meats Company has launched an appeal, challenging the decision by the court not to grant them an injunction, which would prevent us from ever sharing video of their practices, which includes evidence of goats being killed while still conscious and workers striking goats with hands and objects.
In turn, we will be launching our own appeal to question the Federal Court's decision to impose $100k in exemplary damages on our organisation; an amount which is unusually and concerningly high.
The Right to Know Appeal will be held as a one day hearing before the full court of the Federal Court of Australia, in Melbourne on August 1st, 2025.
If you are based in Melbourne we encourage you to join us at the trial to show that this case is being watched by members of the public. The hearing times each day may be subject to change, you can find the latest details here:
This trial asks a fundamental question: does the public have the #RightToKnow what happens to animals who are bred, confined and killed for food in Australia? We believe they do and will be fighting for that right in court.
