In my own journey through depression and alcoholism, there were countless nights when I found myself hugging the toilet, praying desperately that God would take away the desire. I believe in the power of prayer—but I’ve also learned the importance of practical tools: understanding how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors intertwine, and recognizing when depression traps us in that painful “loop” of seeking comfort, safety, and control.
