On Saturday, April 26th, Cummins Nature Preserve will be the place to be for a Native Tree Giveaway starting at 8 a.m.
This event is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation and funded by International Paper Mill of Maysville, which is celebrating their 32nd anniversary in our region.
Participants will receive up to four native trees of their choice. Cummins Nature Preserve will be planting 60 trees next week in the front field. There will be 300 trees distributed for planting.
Available species include 25-30 of the following: shagbark hickory, shellbark hickory, bur oak, chinkapin oak, northern red oak, white oak, bald cypress, pecan, redbud, and black walnut, all in three gallon buckets. White flowering dogwood will be in one gallon buckets.
The gate will open at 8 a.m. so be there close to that time so you can choose the species of your choice. Please be patient, we will let in 10 vehicles at a time. IP will have employee volunteers to load you up. Mason County Football will be selling mulch at the playground. Please support the team!
Planting trees is good for the environment, increasing oxygen, decreasing carbon dioxide, reducing soil erosion, increasing shade, and most importantly increasing biodiversity in our area. Hope to see you there!
