On Thursday, September 19, SHK Presents brings an unforgettable night of classic rock mastery to the Boston Harbor Distillery with Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, performed in its entirety by an all-star lineup.
Guitarist Joe Musella, Berklee’s leading authority on classic rock guitar, channels the fire and finesse of Eric Clapton with stunning authenticity.
Vocalist Chris Cote, known for his work with Duke Robillard and The Giant Kings, delivers a powerful blues and rock performance worthy of the Dominos’ soulful intensity.
Anchoring the rhythm section are bassist Jim Haggerty (The White Owls, Tim Gearan Band, The TrueVines), one of New England’s most in-demand players, and powerhouse drummer Marty Richards (Gary Burton, Norah Jones, Joe Perry, J. Geils Band, Duke Robillard), whose credits span rock, blues, and jazz greats.
The band also features keyboard virtuoso Dave Limina—Berklee’s Piano Department chair and a Hammond organ master whose credits include Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, B.B. King, Pee Wee Ellis, and countless others—and guitarist Kevin Belz, a versatile musician who has toured internationally and performed with Henry Butler, Susan Tedeschi, Duke Robillard, and Tower of Power’s Ellis Hall.
Originally released in 1970, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is a landmark of blues-rock passion, famed for its searing guitar interplay between Eric Clapton and Duane Allman and its deeply emotive songwriting. From the tender ache of “Bell Bottom Blues” to the fiery title track, the album has become one of rock’s most enduring works. This one-night-only performance promises to capture the raw energy, deep groove, and soaring emotion of the original—delivered by some of Boston’s finest musicians in an intimate, up-close setting.
This event is being presented by SHK Music at the Boston Harbor Distillery - a wonderfully unique and intimate setting to take in great music with its 1850s architecture, great acoustics, comfortable seating, and fantastic selection of made-on-the-premises liquors and liqueurs.
