Devils Triangle and Brushy Mountain Prison Tour - SMSBR Pre-Rally Group Ride (Wednesday)

I am planning a group ride from the rally spot in Maryville to tour the historic Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary and take a lap around the famous Devil's Triangle. This will be a full day outing. The route is still a work in progress at this time, but I anticipate it being approximately 150 miles with around 4 hours of seat time. Tour of the prison can be guided with a public group for $32 per person or $22 for a self guided tour.

We will meet at the rally spot at 8AM and kickstands up at 8:30. From there we will head out through Lenior City to Oliver Springs, TN. Here we will start our trip around the Devil's Triangle. Along the first leg of the triangle we will come to the Brushy Mountain prison where we will take around a two hour break for a tour and lunch at the warden's table. After that we will continue on our lap around the triangle. Important note: the Devil's Triangle is a challenging route, with switchback sections similar to the Tail of the Dragon. This route laps around the Wind Rock off-road park, where atv's often share the same roads. Dirt and gravel on the road is common. We will be taking it easy, enjoying the views, and not taking any chances on these roads. Sections of the triangle also have sharp, steep, switchbacks. Shouldn't be any problem on our little bikes, but definitely something to be aware of.

Once we complete the triangle, we will begin our route back to the rally spot in Maryville. We will plan at least one gas stop each way with a chance to stretch out and rest up for a bit. I plan on this being around a 7 hour day with all stops included.

This is going to be a long day with a lot of seat time and these little bikes aren't exactly known to be long distance touring machines. Please make sure that you are comfortable covering these kinds of distances before committing to this ride. People are welcome to ride or drive anything they wish if they are not comfortable going this far on a mini-bike. No judgement here! But the ride will be led at what I would consider a "stock grom" pace.
