First Friday Movie - Tick, Tick...BOOM! (a musical drama)

"Tick, Tick… Boom!" tells the story of Jonathan Larson, a talented young composer in New York City during the early 1990s, who is struggling to find his place in the world of musical theater. As he approaches his 30th birthday, Jonathan feels the weight of time pressing on him — wondering if he will ever achieve the success he dreams of while managing the challenges of relationships and everyday life. The film is based on Jonathan Larson’s own autobiographical stage work, "Tick, Tick .. Boom!", which was first performed off-Broadway in 2001, capturing his hopes, fears, and determination to create something meaningful. It explores the universal experience of chasing dreams amid uncertainty and the passage of time.
Tragically, Larson died suddenly at age 35 on January 25, 1996, the night before his later musical "Rent" premiered — never knowing how profoundly his work would impact the world. "Tick, Tick … Boom!" is both a celebration of his creative spirit and a reminder of how precious and unpredictable life can be. It invites us all to reflect on making the most of the time we have to pursue our passions and leave a lasting legacy.
