Thank you to all of our community partners and everyone who helped bring this event together, especially the Clayton and Delaware County Sexual Assault Response Teams. This is not an open public event. It is limited to first responders of sexual and domestic violence.
This year, we’ve made a purposeful change to broaden our focus to include both sexual assault and domestic violence. These crimes often overlap, and it’s vital that we address them together, not only to support survivors, but to ensure our first responders have the tools and training needed to prevent and respond to the unthinkable. Both issues deserve equal attention, and we remain committed to raising awareness, providing education, and standing with those impacted.
We hope you will join us for a day of education, connection, and partnership.

Info:
In January 2024, Jami Kasemeier was found shot to death in her Waukon, Iowa home following a welfare check. Her husband, Brandon Kasemeier, who had a known history of domestic abuse, was quickly identified as the suspect. A violent phone call the day before her death raised concerns, and Brandon was later tracked to a hotel in Colorado. A coordinated effort between Iowa DCI and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office led to his arrest, where meth and a .22 revolver were recovered. Spent .22 casings were found at the crime scene, and an autopsy confirmed multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Brandon was charged with first-degree M**der. This case highlights the importance of swift digital tracking, interagency collaboration, and proactive response in domestic violence-related homicides.

Info: This course offers a first responder’s perspective on the critical need for a unified, informed response to domestic violence incidents involving strangulation. Often overlooked or misunderstood, strangulation is one of the most lethal forms of abuse, and its signs are frequently missed.
Participants will learn how to identify both visible and non-visible indicators, approach victims with trauma-informed care, and document findings effectively. Emphasis is placed on scene safety, interagency collaboration, and why coordinated response between law enforcement, EMS, healthcare, and advocacy is essential to saving lives and securing justice.
