Bird Watching Hike with Nature Man Mike!

Join us for a 2.5-hour beginner-friendly birdwatching hike through the scenic Middlesex Fells Reservation in Malden on Sunday, July 20, 2025! Whether you’re new to birding or a seasoned observer, this slow-paced, community-centered walk will offer a chance to tune into the natural world, learn to spot local birds, and enjoy the calm beauty of the woods.

Our guide for the day is Nature Man Mike—aka Michael Bryant—a Boston-based professional photographer and passionate birder. With over 20 years of nature photography experience and a deep love for birds since 2017, Mike has led bird walks with organizations like Mass Audubon, Franklin Park Coalition, Brookline Bird Club, and The Great Malden Outdoors. His enthusiasm and knowledge of bird behavior, calls, and habitats make every outing exciting and educational.

What to Expect

• A gentle, guided hike through shaded woodland trails
• Instruction on how to identify birds by sight and sound
• Opportunities to spot and photograph a variety of species
• A relaxed, social environment to enjoy nature together

• Comfortable walking shoes

The Outside Social Club: We connect and empower people of color to explore the outdoors through affordable and educational adventures in the Greater Boston area. By hosting outdoor events, offering membership perks, and partnering with local businesses, we break barriers, build community, and reclaim nature as a space for everyone—without exception.

The Great Malden Outdoors: Outdoor recreation is for everyone, yet not everyone recreates outside. According to the Outdoor Industry Association Participation Report, 57% of Americans recreate outside, but what about the other 43%? When you look at the data, many groups are missing: ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and lower-income folks. The goal of The Great Malden Outdoors is to make outdoor recreation equitable for all. The city of Malden, MA has the unique combination of being the 4th most diverse city in the state of Massachusetts and home to a wide array of some of the most accessible outdoor recreation spaces in the country.

All ages and experience levels are welcome. This event is perfect for folks curious about birds, outdoor photography, or just looking for a peaceful Sunday morning in the woods.
