About the event

Water and Soil: The Frontier Beneath Your Feet
Join UW Madison Soil Science Professor Nick Balster for an interactive walk around Owen Conservation Park to learn about soil, the foundation for all terrestrial life and an underappreciated, endangered resource. Learn about the relationship between soil and water as Dr. Balster provides an overview of the major rain garden research project that he led at Owen Park, and about the role native prairie plants and natural areas like ours play in storm water management and healthy ecosystems. He will demonstrate the tools and techniques he uses in the field and open your eyes and minds to the wonders of soil!
