The basic handstand is a fitness and acrobatics goal for many people. standing for long periods in a static, inverted pose is a clear sign of strength, balance, and technique. but there are many ways to get upside down that use some of the same skills, but can take you in many new directions!
Walking, spinning, cartwheel variations, transitions...these are all skills that get us upside down and, while the more balance you have the better, they don't demand mastery of a static handstand for long periods of time.
This hour and a half workshop will begin with a warm-up of the pertinent muscles and joints for inversions using simple, progressive condition and mobility drills, moving on to learning entrances, hand rotations, and partner drills. From there, we will learn how to beat walk and spin on our hands (these drills do not require the student to have an unassisted handstand), and work on bailing and transitioning gracefully in and out of these positions and movements.
The end result will be a series of skills that can be incorporated into other movement practices (dance, acro, clowning, etc.) and a clear path for improvement to unlock more advanced skills and abilities!
All ages and abilities welcome, although some dance, aerial, acro, or other movement practice will help students get the maximum benefit.
$40 per student
(Contact me if this is an obstacle for you to participate, I'm always willing to discuss, trade skills, etc.)
