"Jaime Guiscafre's distinguished career in music encompasses several roles including being a performer, composer, ethnomusicologist and educator.His formal training as a guitarist began as a pupil of Juan Mercadal, Abel Carlevaro and Ricardo Iznaola. As a performer he has played solo classical guitar as well as being a member of the celebrated Latin American ensemble, Sotavento, and with musical visionary Roscoe Mitchell performing in N. and S. America, Europe and Japan. His recordings are in Redwood Records, DiscosPueblo and independent labels. As a composer Jaime has written for solo guitar, various ensembles, and collaborations with Sotavento and Roscoe Mitchell. In 1988 Jaime received an Emmy for best documentary soundtrack
for WTTW's "Hispanic Mosaic."
As an educator, Jaime has been on the faculties of UW-Oshkosh,Lawrence University
and Clarke University. Jaime was also an artist in residence at UNAM, Mexico City, Chiba Prefecture Japan, and the University of Miami, Florida. As a ethnomusicologist Jaime wrote a landmark thesis on Argentine guitarist, Julio Sagreras in 1988. He collaborated on a children's method for beginning guitar for the FJH Music company
in 1989.
Although Jaime is retired now he maintains a teaching practise and occasionally gives
concerts."
