The Al Sears Music Fest presents accomplished jazz pianist Richie Bliesener with his dynamic quartet featuring piano, bass, drums, and trumpet on Saturday, September 20, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at the Western Illinois Museum.
A Burlington native, Bliesener developed a love for ragtime and old-time piano styles from an early age. Now, joined by fellow students from the WIU School of Music, he brings a fresh take to jazz favorites. This performance is part of the Music Fest’s Local Stage, which highlights area musicians.
Daytime performances begin at noon, with bar service and Sandra’s Authentic Mexican Food Truck available throughout the day. Visitors can enjoy additional live music as part of this day-long celebration of Al Sears, leading into Anthony’s headline performance in the evening.
The Al Sears Music Fest honors Macomb native Al Sears (1910–1990), a pioneering saxophonist, songwriter, and entrepreneur who performed with jazz legends like Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton, and played a key role in shaping the sound of early rock and roll as a producer and executive with ABC Paramount.
Throughout the weekend, the Western Illinois Museum will feature photographs, recordings, and artifacts highlighting Sears’s remarkable career.
Bring your family, invite your friends, and celebrate Al Sears and Macomb’s unique place in American music history. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Performing Arts Society.
