Festival of Small Halls returns to Macleay Island on Sunday, 27 July 2025 with touring artists Champagne Weather (CAN) and Charm of Finches (AUS).
In a world that seems to spin faster every day, Champagne Weather makes time stand still. With a blend of songwriting and sound sculpture, the band artfully connects folk/roots to modern
minimalism. Every song is a shimmering blanket of sound with flashes of Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Appalachian fiddle and Maritime folksong. Their music wraps around the audience, creating transformative musical moments.
Australian sister duo Charm of Finches delivers intricate folk-pop that is simultaneously graceful and darkly bewitching. Their seamless blood harmonies traverse melancholy and wonder in equal measure. They return to the Small Halls circuit, performing songs from their latest album as well as exciting new material. The sisters, Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes, have toured extensively through the UK, Europe and Canada in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Our wonderful local act will be the Gelato Jetty Band. Born on a small Island in the Coral Sea, the Gelato Jetty band originated from a jam at the local gelato shop on a Saturday morning. The Band: Brett Kelly on Wood Guitar, Harmonica and Vocals. Robby Cenda on Lead Guitar and backing Vox. Caaden Goleby-Newman on Tenor Saxophone. Nikola Shaw on Tuba and Vox. These musicians have all paid their dues touring the music halls, hotels, markets and dives of the seediest parts of towns all over the globe. Now they come together with a touch of New Orleans, a dash of Hank Williams, a smidgen of Tom Waits and red dirt originals born out of Island life.
Macleay Island Community Centre Hall stands on the traditional lands of the Quandamooka People. A lovely hall situated on beautiful Macleay Island in the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. Just a short ferry trip from Redland Bay.
