Lytham OGA Rally at Ribble Cruising Club:
Fri 23 - Mon 26 May
Join us over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend for our first event of the season at Ribble Cruising Club in Lytham. The event offers OGA members a chance to explore Lytham, meet up with friends and sail in the Ribble Estuary. The event is suitable for both sea going vessels and trailerable boats. Hopefully with temperatures warming up, we should have a lovely sunny weekend with a sea breeze in the afternoon,
We plan to offer racing, a cruise in company and programme of social events,
Most sizes of gaffers accommodated from 10ft to 36ft. Gaff rigged dinghies, yachts, prawners, shrimpers and other traditional boats welcome. Arrive by road or sea. The Club has moorings for bigger boats at Lytham Creek and storage for dinghies at their Clubhouse overlooking the estuary. Camping is available on site and there is wide choice of accommodation in the town. If you are not planning to bring a boat come anyway and you might get a chance to go out on a boat.
Lytham is a beautiful seaside town. The town developed as a select seaside resort from the eighteenth century onwards. Ribble Cruising Club is located on The Green, on the seafront. The Green which features a windmill and lifeboat museum stretches along the estuary for one and half miles towards Fairhaven Lake.
There are cafes, bars, bistros and boutiques in the town centre. The town had a fishing fleet that included Morecambe Bay Prawners. L.S.Lowry painted pictures of gaff rig boats, whilst on holilday in Lytham. Character Boat, makers of Whammels, Pilots and Post Boats used to be based in the town.
