This August, we invite you to join Canterbury for Ukraine — a local charity supporting displaced Ukrainians in East Kent and Canterbury, UK — for a special day of unity, identity, and gratitude.
Together with the Ukrainian and British communities, we will mark:
34 years of Ukraine’s Independence (officially celebrated on 24 August, but marked here on Saturday for greater community inclusion) and Ukraine’s National Flag Day (23 August).
đź“… Saturday, 23 August 2025

🕊 We’ll come together to honour Ukraine’s resilience and identity through a Solidarity Walk, cultural activities, music, crafts, and meaningful community connection.

🎤 3:00 PM — Opening Ceremony (in front of the Library)
🚶‍♀️ 3:10–3:20 PM — Ukrainian Independence Day Walk

✨Special Highlight:
As part of the international cultural initiative “Signs of Identity”, we will host a local presentation of Vybyika — a rare Ukrainian woodblock textile printing tradition.
This ancient art form uses carved wooden blocks to imprint traditional patterns on fabric — a beautiful way to reconnect with heritage through craft and memory.
📚 Earlier in the day, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, an Information Stand will be open on High Street near the Library.
Feel free to stop by to learn more about the day’s significance and our organisation’s work.
ℹ️ If any changes to the programme occur, we will share updates promptly here in the event page, on our official Facebook page, and in the Canterbury for Ukraine group. Please stay tuned for announcements.
We invite everyone! Whether you’re Ukrainian, British, or a friend of Ukraine — your presence matters. Bring your Ukrainian flags, wear your vyshyvanka, or just bring your warm heart and solidarity. 🙏
Let’s walk together to say: Ukraine is not alone.
💙💛 Canterbury for Ukraine was founded in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Since then, we’ve supported hundreds of Ukrainian families across East Kent, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity.
