Logan Richardson’s blues PEOPLE is a genre-defying ensemble that explores the rich lineage and future of Black American Music. Formed in 2018 by alto saxophonist, composer, and producer Logan Richardson, the group draws inspiration from Amiri Baraka’s blues people: Negro Music in White America, channelling the history, struggle, and innovation of Black music into a sound that is both rooted and radical.
Born in Kansas City - a city steeped in jazz heritage - Richardson has worked with luminaries like Pat Metheny and Jason Moran and is celebrated for his fearless contributions to contemporary jazz. blues PEOPLE features a dynamic configuration of straight alto saxophone, electric vibraphone, synthesizer, electric guitar, electric bass, and drums - together creating a bold, genre-blending sonic identity.
Their self-titled debut album is a raw, unfiltered statement, fusing Kansas City blues with rock, soul, and avant-garde jazz. Their latest release, Sacred Garden (2024), continues this evolution with immersive textures, spiritual urgency, and boundary-pushing ensemble interplay.
On stage, blues PEOPLE delivers electrifying, high-energy performances that blur lines between tradition and futurism. Every performance is a communal experience - an urgent and emotional expression of the Black musical continuum.
blues PEOPLE reclaims the narrative of Black music as a living, evolving force - at once grounded in ancestral roots and propelled by radical imagination.
