About the event

Global impact of attacks on healthcare in conflict zones
Attacks on healthcare in conflict zones are on the rise. Join to hear first hand accounts of working as a doctor in humanitarian settings.

About this Event

Attacks on clearly marked ambulances, targeting of healthcare workers, bombing of hospitals, restriction of medical supplies, and the denial of access to healthcare all form part of a continuum of violence that is seen in conflicts from Gaza, through Ukraine, to Sudan, and beyond. This continuum of violence seemingly represents a shift in the norms of war and undermining of humanitarian law and principles, with severe consequences for those delivering healthcare in conflict zones, and the populations reliant on that care.

In this panel event, our speakers will reflect on their own experiences of delivering healthcare in conflict zones and situate their experiences in the wider context of the state of humanitarian medicine and attacks on healthcare and healthcare workers.

You can attend this event in person or watch the event online, please register for a free ticket using one of the two ticketing options. Joining details for online attendees will be sent nearer the time.

Speakers:

  • is an Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon with over 30 years of experience working in humanitarian medicine and conflict settings. She co-founded MAP, and works at the Royal London and Newham Hospitals.

The event will be chaired by (QMUL School of Law), who has researched extensively on attacks on healthcare and the laws of war.
