Beginner's Field Recording Workshop

Join us for a playful, exploratory field recording workshop based in and around Royal Brompton Hospital. Absolute beginners are welcome.

Tune into hidden dimensions of the Royal Brompton area with listening exercises and special microphones. How do these "listening devices" change the space and us - the listeners?

We'll think about listening and sounding with our naked ears through guided exercises. Then, we'll capture hidden sounds using geophones, hydrophones and other special microphones. The sweeping magnetic fields in the cafe. The underwater sounds. The stillness of St Luke's Church. The seismic vibrations of our bodies.

Afterwards, those who wish to develop their skills will be supported to record and map the sounds of Creativity & Wellbeing Week 2025 - see more free events here, including a gratitude walk and talks.

We'll meet in the reception of Royal Brompton Hospital on Sydney Street. Tickets are very limited for this event due to its participatory nature.
