The Logan City Symphony Orchestra makes its grand debut in A New World of Music for Logan—a landmark moment in the cultural life of our city and a bold step forward in the evolution of orchestral music in the region. As the premier ensemble of Logan City Orchestras, the LCSO brings together outstanding musicians from across South East Queensland, united by a shared passion for performance, artistry, and community.
This inaugural concert is both a celebration and a signal: a celebration of the extraordinary local talent that already exists within Logan, and a signal of the many directions this orchestra will explore in the years to come. The program is as diverse as the city itself—blending classical elegance, lyrical drama, cinematic brilliance, and symphonic power.
The evening opens with Bernstein’s effervescent Candide Overture, followed by two expressive concert arias by Mozart—È amore un ladroncello and Smanie implacabili—and Edward Elgar’s deeply evocative Where Corals Lie, all featuring Logan’s own mezzo-soprano Alla Yarosh. These works showcase the voice as both a storyteller and emotional anchor, offering audiences a glimpse into the intimate and theatrical dimensions of the orchestra.
After this, the concert pivots to symphonic cinema with John Williams’ Star Wars Suite—an iconic set of themes that has captivated generations—and closes with Antonín Dvořák’s mighty Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, a piece that speaks to journeys, discovery, and new beginnings.
Led by conductor Dr Lewes Peddell, this performance is more than a debut—it is a symphonic saga of orchestral storytelling that celebrates Logan’s pride, opportunity, and culture. We invite you to be part of this historic evening, as we begin a new chapter in the artistic life of our city, together.
