Start Drawing Workshop

Drawing is a great skill to learn. It can be done anywhere, for as long as you wish and all you need is some paper and a pencil or pen. Drawing is also an excellent mindfulness activity if you’re looking to de-stress this year.

This easy and informative workshop is for complete beginners who’d like to start learning how to draw ‘properly’.

Using simple, everyday objects as our inspiration, local artist Clare Russell will take us through a step-by-step approach, considering things like shapes, simplification, guidelines, proportions and shading. We’ll also look at the benefits and disadvantages of using photographs as drawing references.

Lots of demonstrations, guidance and tips will be given to get you drawing in 2026.

Suitable for absolute beginners; no previous drawing experience required. Adults only

What you’ll need to bring:

Sketchbook or loose paper (A4 or larger)

Board to lean paper on

Pencil for drawing (HB, B or 2B)

Eraser or putty

Reference photograph of any subject (optional)
