This workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced weavers and will cover 2-days exploring rope coil baskets. Take your time to understand and practice this beautiful and organic method for weaving basket sides. You are welcome to bring your own basket bases (round, strand and stake only) to get a head start or I will show you how to make them on the day.
Spend the time to learn how to perfect the rope coil weaving technique.
Investigate and explore the different techniques and materials used to add in “packing” and how it can influence shape and form. This will include willow bark and other foraged items.
Different varieties of willow grown in our willow field will be available for weaving, featuring different bark colours.
Runs from 11.00 – 5.00 both days at Myddfai Community Hall and Visitor Centre, Myddfai, Carms SA20 0JD
What you will learn:
How to make a stake and strand base using pairing weave
How to stake up the sides of the basket
How to use a 4 or 5 rod wale to weave the sides and create the rope coil effect
How to add colour as “infill” between the coils
Includes all materials and tools – willow colours will vary depending on what we have available.
The cafe will be open if you would like to buy lunch.
