About this Event

Kayd Somali Arts and Culture,Liverpool Arab Arts Festival, and other Somali communities invite you to join our highly anticipated Somali Week Express in Liverpool, taking place on Saturday 8th November 2025 at Pal Multicultural Centre (68A Mulgrave St, Liverpool L8 2TF).

The festival will showcase and celebrate a diverse line-up of British-Somali and visiting artists, athletes, and creatives. The event will be officially opened by Cllr Rahima Farah, councillor for Toxteth and governor at Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust.

After opening remarks, this will be followed by a poetry performance and conversation with Said Salah Ahmed. Said is a poet, educator, playwright, and filmmaker who has contributed greatly to Somali culture and literature over the past few decades.

This will be followed by an inspiring panel discussion on sports, media, and opportunities for Somali-British youth, featuring Hilaal, ScouseMali, Abdi Sharif, and Yasmin Ali. This session will spotlight trailblazers who are breaking barriers, creating pathways, and redefining representation in football and digital media.

Hilaal is a football coach at Liverpool FC Foundation, inspiring the next generation in a field where Somali women are rarely represented. ScouseMali is a popular social media personality and content creator on Twitch and TikTok, known for gaming, comedy, and pranks. He also appeared on Footasylum’s flagship show Locked In (Season 5). Abdi Sharif is a professional footballer, formerly with Liverpool FC’s Under-21s. He made history as the first Somali to play in the EFL Championship with Wigan Athletic and now plays for Connah’s Quay Nomads in Wales. Yasmin Ali is a Creative Producer, Artist, and Writer with credits across BBC and Channel 4, published work in Tate Digital and gal-dem, and exhibitions in UK galleries.

The evening will conclude with Traditional Somali dance performances by local youth and headline performances from Abdirahman Nasri and Nimco Degan. Abdirahman Nasri (Nasri) is a Somali singer-songwriter acclaimed for his soulful vocals and compelling storytelling. His music blends traditional Somali influences with modern pop, with hits such as Magacsan, Kugu Marmay, and Maamiya (Raadiyaa). With a strong social media presence, especially on TikTok, he is rapidly becoming a global voice for young Somali audiences. Nimco Degan is a UK-based Somali artist known for her distinctive voice and musical contributions that blend traditional melodies with contemporary themes, resonating deeply with diverse audiences.

The event will be hosted by Yaz, who will oversee the programme, introduce performers and speakers, and maintain engagement with the audience throughout the event.
