LATHOM HALL - BUILDING HISTORY
Built in 1884, the Lathom Club on Lathom Avenue in Seaforth was first used as a social hall before becoming a cinema.
Opening as a picture house in 1912, the cinema's motto was "come once and you're a regular patron," but sadly four years later it was forced to close on the arrival of the First World War.
Following the war, the site was utilised as a school kitchen ensuring that the children of the area would at least have one meal a day.
The building again changed hands in 1949 when it was purchased by Crosby Corporation. The property changed hands several times over the following years, being used for musical productions, the Royal Naval Association Club took over the company before it was again taken over and used as a musical memorabilia museum.
The building was closed for a short while left unused but has been brought back to life by its current owner.
We are very fortunate to be granted permission to investigate Lathom Hall again. (You won’t find this investigation anywhere else)
Not only this, but the land is also a stones throw from the Liverpool Docks where there have been numerous deaths over the years from foul play and accidents at the docks. The docks were a rough place to grow and work in the 1800/1900’s - poverty leading to crime and murders on a daily way of life. There was a tragic murder of a ten year old boy in 1891, this is among many others. Will this have left footprints on the land and will we encounter roaming spirits seeking answers.
Will we encounter a love lorn lady whose partner went to war? A singer / dancer / entertainer from when the building first opened? Will we speak to a child, hungry for school lunch? Who will be hiding in the shadows, hiding on the stage or will we find a spirit coming in from the cold, joining us as they wander by.
