About the event

Conversations with Liverpool: Zine Launch and Collage Workshop
Join us for the new zine launch and collage workshop exploring our relationship with the place we live in.

Conversations with Liverpool is a series of three zines by Maria Gulina, exploring relationships with the city through instant photography, collage and found poetry. It is published by The Wanderin’ Library.
During the event Maria will talk about the stories behind the zines, and Johanna, creator of The Wanderin’ Library, will tell more about DIY publishing in Liverpool. We’ll then have a workshop (all materials provided) to create a collage that explores your relationship with the city you live in.
Maria said: It started when I moved to Liverpool. I started noticing “LOVE” graffiti – different places, same font. In my personal time of anxiety and uncertainty it was something that supported me, a city talking back at me. I wanted to make a story about it. I wanted Liverpool, with its street-art, its people, its birds, to be my co-author. I started taking pictures, writing down random conversations, collecting maps, and cutting out words from magazines. The series consists of three stories: “10 ways to love in Liverpool” is a love story that happened to me, “10 monsters in Liverpool” is a poem about other-than-human entities talking to us, and “10 birds Liverpool” is a visual essay about belonging and freedom.
Johanna said: Collaborating on publishing these zines with Maria has been nothing but a joy and we are so excited to share this work with you. Maria's creative approach is really inspiring and each page of visual poetry invites us to wander and wonder about our own places and sense of belonging.

Maria Gulina is a writer and multidisciplinary artist based in Liverpool. She uses photography, collage, and found poetry to talk about identity, love, and meaningful relationships with the places we exist in.

The Wanderin’ Library is a mobile zine library based out of Liverpool, bringing an archive of micro-published DIY books and zines into spaces and places for people to read and enjoy. One of the main ideas behind this project is to work with people to create zines collaboratively adding to the library as it travels – encouraging connections, creative authorship, play, and experimentation.
