The Liverpool Chinatown Photographic Society, in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, proudly presents Chinatown: The Heart of Liverpool, a transformative photographic project that celebrates Liverpool’s vibrant Chinese and East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) heritage.
This ambitious initiative aims to create a compelling visual record of Liverpool’s rich Chinese history and culture while fostering community engagement and addressing structural barriers faced by ESEA communities in the Northwest.
The project seeks to capture the essence of Chinatown and its people, inviting participants from all walks of life to share their stories and become part of this landmark project. From family-run businesses to artists, students, and community leaders, Chinatown: The Heart of Liverpool will document the diverse voices that contribute to the heart and soul of this historic neighbourhood.
Through the lens of local photographers, this project will explore and highlight issues impacting ESEA communities, from underrepresentation to challenges in securing governmental support. Chinatown Photographic Society’s photographers will showcase their work in exhibitions with Liverpool John Moores University that reflect these themes, culminating in a thought-provoking panel discussion to inspire meaningful change.
