About the event

Celebrating Some Greats of the 60's-70's -KRM Refugee Benefit
Claire Rose, Brandi Hart, Kevin Holm-Hudson, JJ Marrs, & Bryce Ernest Taylor will be covering songs from some of their favorite singer/songwriters of the 60's & 70's. It will be a wonderful evening of music with harmony and collaboration in this AMAZING community venue. The artists will be donating their pay, Kenwick will be donating a portion of their proceeds from the evening, and hopefully you will be willing to contribute, as well, to those who have come for refuge in our community and need assistance, NOW more than ever. Kentucky Refugee Ministries will be on site to share information and answer questions about their organization and how else you can help.

More about the artists performing to come below...

Kevin Holm-Hudson. Singer-songwriter and covers revivalist Dr. Kevin Holm-Hudson holds a genuine earned doctoral degree in music composition, which he has frittered away ever since writing songs instead of symphonies. By day he is Professor of Music Theory at the University of Kentucky; evenings and weekends, he writes and sings songs about nature, God, dogs, mortality, and Pablo Casals. His music is available at kevin-holm-hudson.bandcamp.com.

JJ Marrs mat Bryce a few years ago at an open mic. Immediately they knew their musical tastes had much overlap. Bryce tells people JJ can sing John Denver songs in the key they were written in. His range is amazing. With strong vocals and a unique guitar-strumming style, JJ delights and moves audiences regularly with these songs of the 60’s & 70’s. This music is definitely “in his wheelhouse”.

Claire Rose is a born Lexingtonian, getting her start in living room sessions at home. Her folk sound has roots in blues and rock, while utilizing classical vocal training. She has performed numerous times with the Kentucky Partisans for yearly Tribute concerts, in honor of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and other influential songwriters. Writing her own music since she was young, Claire is branching out as a solo artist and working to find her own voice.

Brandi Hart began her professional music career in 2001 in New York City. Working first as a vocalist for hire on the vibrant Manhattan roots music scene, Brandi quickly co-founded her own act -- the award-winning Dixie Bee-Liners. Featuring the original songwriting of Hart and others, The Dixie Bee-Liners' music drew on influences from bluegrass, folk, blues, country, and folk-rock. The songs explored themes of love, abuse, wandering, daughterhood, and much more.

In 2006, the band signed with Pinecastle Records. The Dixie Bee-Liners released a total of four commercial albums between 2005-2015. Throughout the lifespan of the group, the band shared the stage with Alison Krauss, Dr. Ralph Stanley, Chris Stapleton, Ricky Skaggs, Little Feat, Fairport Convention, Richie Havens, Charlie Daniels, and many others. During this time, the band achieved four #1's on the bluegrass charts and were named Roots Music Association's 2005 Bluegrass Artist of the Year.

Nearly 15 years after beginning her professional journey, Brandi announced the end of The Dixie Bee-Liners and began pursuing a gratifying solo career. She has appeared on several recordings by Emmy-nominated Gangstagrass (from TV's Justified), and she starred as Mother Maybelle Carter in Barter Theatre’s 2023 production of Keep on the Sunny Side.

Brandi is currently writing a musical children's book, as well as two musical plays. She has a limited number of private instruction openings for interested students.
