Lewisville residents are invited to a powerful evening that honors the 100-year legacy of the City of Lewisville, and the enduring contributions of Black families who shaped its foundation, during a film premiere on Thursday, June 19, 7:30 p.m., at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.
"Sacred Ground: The Legacy Beneath Lewisville" shines a light on the untold stories of the Hembry and Champion families — trailblazers whose lives were deeply rooted in the land and spirit of Lewisville.
This movie premiere event is free and open to the public, but ticket reservations are encouraged to reserve a seat in the Huffines Performance Hall. Free tickets are available at
https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/lewisvillegrand/3489.
Attendees are encouraged to attend the opening reception at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy music, food, and fellowship, featuring a curated historical gallery. The movie will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The documentary-style film was created by filmmaker Micah Autry, whose previous work has included directing and producing several films featured in the groundbreaking Denton Black Film Festivals. The film was commissioned as part of the yearlong Lewisville Centennial Celebration.
Through an evocative short film, archival photo gallery, and moving panel discussion, this celebration will uncover the histories buried beneath the surface — stories of land, love, loss, resilience, and generational hope. Learn how the dreams of these families continue to echo across time, enriching the present and inspiring the future.
This is just one of many Centennial Celebration activities being planned during 2025. Other activities include history exhibits, tree-plantings, a commissioned original play in September, and a vibrant projection art exhibit on the front of City Hall in November.
