UIS Summer Camp-Exploring the Emiquon Preserve

Participate in a new hands-on educational experience for high school students this summer, as part of the 2025 UIS Academic Summer Camp program. Exploring the Emiquon Preserve will be held June 16-18 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Students will explore the wild side of science at The Nature Conservancy’s Emiquon Preserve. Hike through breathtaking landscapes and learn about the unique history of the Central Illinois River Valley. Get your feet wet as you sample macroinvertebrates in the wetland and discover how these tiny creatures help us understand the health of aquatic ecosystems. You'll work in teams to sort your samples and even get up close with microscopes to identify your findings. This is your chance to dive into hands-on science, explore the outdoors, and learn something new in an unforgettable way!

Registration is required at https://go.uis.edu/UIScamps Cost is $149 and includes equipment and transportation between the lake and field station.
